Finishing the Fishipedia

The journal counts 49 creatures. Five things you will catch on the way do not count at all, and eleven of the 49 can never fill their drip half.

Creatures the journal ignores: catching them does nothing for the Fishipedia count.

The journal fills itself as you kill things, and it tracks two states per creature: caught at all, and caught as a drip variant. Working out what is left is easier once you know what the game is counting.

What the journal counts

  • 49creatures tracked by the journal
  • 38of them can appear as drip
  • 11have no drip variant at all
  • 5catchable creatures it ignores
  • 2cannot be hooked with any bait

The game builds the list by loading one folder of creature prefabs and dropping any marked as excluded. That is the whole rule, and it explains the entries people find confusing.

The SeagullSeagullSells for$5Health30Weight0.38 kg – 2.6 kg is the one that trips people up, because killing one is its own achievement and the birds are everywhere. It still does not go in the book.

Bing BongBing BongSells for$300Health2,000Weight1.3 kg – 8.8 kg is the odd case: it has a drip variant modelled and it is flagged as an endangered species, but it is excluded from the journal, so catching it changes nothing in your count.

The eleven that can never be drip

Bosses and mini-bosses are skipped by the drip roll entirely. They also ship without a drip model, so there is nothing to catch even in principle.

That leaves 38 creatures whose drip half can actually be filled. Every one of them is a regular catch off a bait table, so the work is casting rather than hunting.

Fact and inference Verified from the shipped build: the drip roll is skipped for anything with a boss tier, and these eleven have no drip model. What that means for the drip achievement is our own reading of the code rather than something the game states.

Two creatures you cannot fish for

Neither is hookable, so no amount of lure shopping will produce them; they arrive through the story instead.

Everything else in the journal is reachable from a bait, and the creature finder will tell you which one and at what odds.

What is still missing from your journal?

Regular catches

Work the lure tables from the cheapest lure up; every regular entry sits on at least one table, and the creatures page lists which. The slowest ones are in the table below.

Mini-bosses

Buy each boss lure once. The Beginner Boss LureBeginner Boss LureCosts$40Bite timer1–3sCatches2 creatures hooks one of two at even odds, so it may take two; every other boss lure hooks exactly one creature. The Albatross or the Mutated Bowhead Whale

Neither is on a bait. Both come from the island 4 and island 5 story steps, so a second kill means repeating those steps: a Tuna left in the zone, or a dead Bowhead Whale in the lava.

Working through what is left

Sort the finder by hardest to hook and work down. The long tail is short: most of the remaining time goes to a handful of low-percentage slots rather than to the bulk of the list.
